EBOOKBINDER DRESDEN FILES SERIES
If you don't like the series by the end of Summer Knight, you probably won't end up liking it at all.

Or, if you don't want to spend the time, just read book four.

Here's what I would suggest: read the first four. If you're interested in modern fantasy, I would honestly say the Dresden Files novels are a must-read. He balances epic, potentially earthshattering action with quieter moments of characterization, and he does it well. But he writes well, he doesn't take himself too seriously, and he has a real gift for writing characters you'll come to care about. Simon Green is closer, but the Dresden Files books aren't too similar to the Nightside stuff from what I've seen, either.
EBOOKBINDER DRESDEN FILES TV
They have very little in common with the TV series (and the only episode with a direct tie to the books - an adaptation of Storm Front - was abominably bad), so I really wouldn't say that hating the TV series means you'll hate the books.īutcher doesn't write like Neil Gaiman.

Storm Front is very much a first novel and it takes Jim Butcher a little while to find his stride, but I enjoyed it enough to keep reading, and the later books are much, much better. At around book 4 - I would even argue book 3 - the stakes get higher and some freaking epic stuff happens. The first couple of books are a bit simplistic and playfully noirish, yeah.
